Telecom students recently covered the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Annual Convention, which was held in Williamsburg.

The event, held at the Williamsburg Lodge, attracts over 1,000 school board members, superintendents, and school division employees from all over Virginia.

Every year, Telecom students record video footage at the convention for the purpose of producing a promotional video to advertise next year's convention. They covered two days of the convention, November 20 and 21.

Led by Telecom Supervisor Ray Price, the crew attends two days to get coverage of all the events, including a very early 5K race, which means crew call in Newport News at 6 a.m.

The student crew recorded highlights and interviews for their promo, and they will edit it and add audio and graphics to create the video.

The TV crew sees some familiar faces at the event, and this year chatted with NNPS School Board Member and Delegate-Elect Shelly Simonds. She will be representing the 94th district in the Virginia House of Delegates.

They were also spotted by former NNPS Acting Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer and current New Kent County Public Schools Superintendent Brian Nichols, who tweeted that the Telecom crew was "doing an amazing job."

Additionally, Telecom earned honorable mention in the VSBA Student Video Contest, which had over 30 entries. The senior class entered as group. Their video can be seen on YouTube.
