NNPS Telecom students did their usual fine job video-recording the high school graduations, most of which were held in the Hampton Coliseum the second weekend in June.

Each year, the NNPS Telecommunications Center video-records the graduations for many reasons. First, to capture them for broadcast on NNPS-TV Cox 47/FiOS 17 as programming. Second, to produce DVD's to be sold as keepsakes. Third, the video they record is displayed on the enormous video screen during the ceremonies and last, working the production is excellent training for the students. An added bonus is that the students are hired for each job and are paid as school division employees, so it provides jobs for high school students.

Recording the high school graduations involves many workers in a wide variety of roles, from Stage Manager to Camera Operator to Audio Technician. The students work on a number of productions during the year, to learn and become comfortable with the equipment, setup, following and giving direction, computer graphics, and more.

Under the guidance of Telecom Supervisor Ray Price, who served as Producer, the students covered the ceremonies from the Ferguson Center (An Achievable Dream High School), the Hampton Coliseum (the other five high schools), and inside "The Truck" -- Telecom's Remote Production truck, which was recently outfitted with new HD equipment by NNPS-TV Broadcast Engineer Greg Lesko.

Along with Price and Lesko, Telecom Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr. worked on the production, serving as Production Assistant and handling the graphics. Bill Barlow was Director. Demitre Waddell, a 2015 graduate of Telecom and Heritage High, filled the role of Technical Director.

The graduation ceremony video will be edited and combined with other material produced by NNPS-TV about each school to create keepsake DVD's for students and parents to purchase.
