NNPS Telecom students worked hard over graduation weekend, video-recording the five high school graduations Saturday and Sunday, as well as An Achievable Dream High School’s on Thursday evening.

The five large-school graduations were held at the Hampton Coliseum the second weekend in June. An Achievable Dream’s ceremony was held at the Ferguson Center.

Each year, the NNPS Telecommunications Center video-records the graduations for broadcast on NNPS-TV Cox 47/FiOS 17. Telecom also produces DVD's of the ceremonies, which are sold as keepsakes.

Telecom's video feed is displayed on the large video screens during the ceremonies, too.

A live web stream on YouTube made real-time viewing a possibility for people who could not attend the ceremonies. Using a dedicated machine for the Internet stream made for a smooth stream that looked great.

Working the production is excellent training for the Telecom students. Recording the high school graduations involves many workers in a wide variety of roles, from Stage Manager to Camera Operator to Audio Technician. Since there are a number of ceremonies, TV production students can try different jobs.

Looking sharp in their new bright blue uniform shirts, the Telecom student crew members manned their cameras and wheeled their tripods around the Coliseum like pro's. The students work on a number of video productions during the school year, like School Board meetings, sports, and awards banquets, which air on NNPS-TV. They learn how to use the equipment, create computer graphics, and mix audio, plus gain experience in setup and strike, following and giving direction, and more.

Some of the students working this year's graduations had worked on many other productions, but some were new to it. All of the students are paid as interns when they work on productions for the school division.

Under the guidance of Telecom Supervisor Ray Price, who served as Producer, and Director Bill Barlow, the students covered the ceremonies from the Ferguson Center, the Hampton Coliseum, and inside Telecom's remote video production truck.

Along with Price, NNPS-TV Broadcast Engineer Greg Lesko and Telecom Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr. (Production Assistant/graphics) worked on the production.

Eleanor Stuck, a 2017 Telecom graduate, was part of the team, and a couple of graduating Telecom students - Darin Cooper and Gabe Odachowski - were part of the crew for graduations other than their own.

The graduation production went smoothly, and NNPS-TV/Telecom will create keepsake DVDs of the ceremonies for students and parents to purchase.

Each graduation ceremony will be broadcast on NNPS-TV four times. Below is the NNPS-TV broadcast schedule for the 2018 graduations:

NNPS-TV Cox 47/FiOS 17 will broadcast the high school graduation ceremonies during the weeks of June 25 and July 23. The web stream may be seen online at nnpstv.com during the TV broadcast. There is also a web stream on the NNPS-TV video site, and on the NNPS-TV Roku and Apple TV channels.
