Telecom won first and second place, respectively, in OSHA Scrapbook and Quiz Bowl.

SkillsUSA is career and technical student organization that Telecom students join. The goal of SkillsUSA is to ensure that America has a skilled workforce. Students, teachers, and industry work toward that, mostly through conferences featuring competitions.

Telecom students have been participating in these conferences for years.

All five NNPS high schools were represented.

District 4 includes Newport News, Hampton, Yorktown, Gloucester, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the Eastern Shore.

Twelve Telecom students competed at the conference, in the following categories:

Job Interview: Josh Stuck and Pedro Rivera Leon

OSHA Scrapbook: Michael McClellan, Jerrl Bailey, and Seth Hursey (alternate)

Quiz Bowl: Ryan Mullen, Tyson Odette, Derick Miracle, Aliyah Alexander, Brandon Hedgepeth, James Stephens II (alternate), Joshua Fallesgon (alternate)

The results were announced the next week.

Michael McClellan and Jerrl Bailey earned first place for their OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Scrapbook, and move on to the state competition. The OSHA Rules Scrapbook is a package of the students' research in their field pertaining to health and safety. They must complete four projects (for example, conducting a safety survey) and document them in the scrapbook. They also are interviewed by a panel of judges.

The Quiz Bowl team placed second in a highly competetive category.

Telecom Supervisor Ray Price and Instructor Carl Daniels Jr. led the trip and encouraged the students throughout the competition.

The 55th Annual State Leadership Conference and Skills Championship will be held April 12–13 in Virginia Beach, and the national event will be June 24-28 in Louisville, Ky.
