NNPS-TV covers college football for the first time

camera operatorFor the first time ever, NNPS-TV Cox 47/FiOS 17 will broadcast a college football game: Greensboro College at the Apprentice School. The game was taped on Saturday, September 18 and will air on Wednesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 25 at 10 a.m.

The broadcast was set up to give Telecom students some extra hands-on training, raise money for SkillsUSA competitions through advertising, and help build a partnership with Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.

Newport News Public Schools encourages partnerships with local businesses as part of its Career Pathways initiative.  It gives students internship and job-shadowing opportunities that help lead them to a career. Last year, Menchville High Telecom student Kevin Tucker was offered a 10-week internship with the shipyard after he spoke at the Newport News Business and Education Summit.

Telecom Instructional Supervisor Ray Price produced and directed the show. Marcus Hickman served as Instructor / PA and Bryan Catlin as Engineer. Greg Bicouvaris and Nate Milton were the announcers. All other positions were filled by students.
