Every year, NNPS-TV records the Newport News Public Schools awards ceremonies to air on Cox Channel 47/Verizon Fios Channel 17, and on Roku and Apple TV. This year, many celebrations have been virtual, and have been livestreamed. They will be replayed on TV throughout the summer.

As the events are held and the television productions completed, the shows will start airing on NNPS-TV.

Teachers of the Year Awards Ceremony

The Teachers of the Year Awards celebration honors the top teachers as selected by their colleagues. Teachers of the Year will hold that title for the entire following year (2021-22). Each school selects a Teacher of the Year, and from that group, three teachers are selected as the Elementary, Middle, and High School Teachers of the Year. One of those three is then chosen as the Division Teacher of the Year.

Watch the ceremony on NNPS-TV:

In July, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.

Salute to Success

The Salute to Success Student Recognition Celebration honors the valedictorians and salutatorians from each high school; seniors who have earned four or more Industry Certifications, students ranked number one academically in grades nine through 11; and those recognized by the National Merit® Scholarship Program.

The Salute to Success Celebration was held virtually on June 3. The event is sponsored by the Newport News Education Foundation, which supports the public school division in its efforts to prepare students for work.
