SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that brings together students, teachers and industry representatives with a common goal: ensuring our nation has a skilled work force. It provides educational programs, events, and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms.
For over 20 years, Telecom students have been participating in the SkillsUSA competitions and conferences. Participating students take part in competitions at the district, state, and national level. The students compete in a number of different categories, and are encouraged to try things other than TV production, too. Some of the categories they have competed in include "Live on Site" Video Production, Prepared Speech, Quiz Bowl, and Job Interview.
One goal of the club is to raise money for expenses involved in attending and competing in the SkillsUSA conferences.
